Comfortable seating, refreshments, and the unforgettable experience of enjoying films in the warm Athenian evenings: Watching a movie at an open-air cinema in Athens is a perfect way to end a day of sightseeing, offering a blend of cultural enrichment and leisurely entertainment.
Cine Flisvos
The right open-air cinema (or summer cinema, as the Greeks call it) smells like the sea, and Cine Floisvos is definitely one of the most characteristic examples in the south of Athens. Since 2003, every May through early October, this atmospheric cinema mainly screens first-run movies in a highly summery setting that you can’t get enough of.

Cine Votsalakia
Next to the sea of Piraeus, this open-air cinema will give you a sense of being on an island within the city. Renovated and waiting for us, with beautiful murals depicting posters from classic and beloved films such as Casablanca, Titanic, and Never on Sunday, it promises evenings with a seaside atmosphere, blockbusters, and nostalgia.

Cine Alimos
The summer cinema of Alimos, located literally on the beach, plays dozens of movies every summer, inviting us for cinematic evenings by the sea. There, you will enjoy classic and contemporary films, as well as some special events that take place during the season.

Cine Ria
At the same location since 1963, the cinema Ria is not right next to the sea but really a 2 minute walk from it. And it’s undoubtedly one of the most aesthetically pleasing summer cinemas in the southern suburbs of Athens. Comfortable chairs, cozy sofas, and lounges for those close to the screen are the basic ingredients, while the puzzle is completed by the fully equipped bar, where you will find everything from traditional popcorn to hot dogs, soft-serve ice cream, and cocktails.

Κorali Cinemax
Another summer cinema that, although opened in a different era – specifically in 1980 – remains among the top choices of the southern suburbs to this day is called “Korali.” Cinephiles there enjoy first-run movies, while the garden-like space, director’s chairs, and small scattered tables complete the traditional image of a well-kept summer cinema. Keep in mind that it’s not right next to the sea but just above the main coastal road.
