The Michelin Guide, the oldest and most famous institution in international gastronomy, has announced the restaurants that stood out in Athens this year. CTC, of chef Alexandros Tsiotinis, in Kerameikos, and Pelagos of Four Seasons Astir Palace in Asteras, Vouliagmeni, run by Head Chef Luca Piscazzi, are the new stars of the Michelin Guide for the Greek capital. Spondi (in a magnificent neoclassical building in the hip area of Pangrati) keeps its two stars for another year, and Botrini’s (in a 1939 house in Chalandri, in the northern suburbs of Athens), Varoulko Seaside (in Piraeus, in the beautiful Mikrolimano marina) and Hytra (on the 6th floor of the Onassis Foundation Building on Syngrou Avenue – in the summer on the 7th floor, overlooking Athens and, of course, the Acropolis), continue to have one star each.
At the same time, another restaurant, Cerdo Negro 1985, in Gazi, was awarded for the first time the Bib Gourmand distinction, given to restaurants that combine good quality with affordable prices. Oikeio in Kolonaki and Nolan in Syntagma retain their Bib Gourmand distinction this year as well.
Finally, Aleria in Metaxourgeio, Le Pavillon in Chalandri, Okio in Syntagma, Athénée, also downtown (once the legendary Zonar’s at the junction of Panepistimiou and Voukourestiou St.) and a new arrival, Annie Fine Cooking in Neos Kosmos, were added to the Guide’s suggestions for 2021.
The two new restaurants in Athens that won a Michelin star
CTC, Kerameikos
After six years in operation, the restaurant of chef Alexandros Tsiotinis is awarded its first Michelin star. CTC recently moved to Kerameikos, in a listed neoclassical building with a beautiful garden. “Our new restaurant has been designed to capture all your senses, in order for you to enjoy the journey we are about to set off on together to the fullest,” says the CTC team, inviting us to surrender ourselves to their hands and allow them to introduce us “to the history, the culture and the traditions of the lavish Greek cuisine translated into the most creative and sophisticated culinary language.”

Pelagos, Four Seasons Astir Palace, Asteras Vouliagmenis
Only six months after it opened (in May 2021), Pelagos was already awarded its first Michelin star. The head of the kitchen is Italian chef Luca Piscazzi, previously running the two-Michelin-starred La Dame de Pic in London. The modern restaurant of Four Seasons Astir Palace in Vouliagmeni focuses, through its refined cuisine, on fish and seafood, offering a breathtaking view of the sea in an elegant, simple setting.
