Parks, hidden spots and well-known destinations by the sea or with breathtaking views: A list of places in the southern suburbs of Athens (the famous Athens Riviera) that are the perfect terrain to organize a picnic day with your friends.

Athens might not offer the well-groomed parks London does, but – especially in the spring months – the city is perfect for a lovely picnic. With the warm and sunny days predisposing you for outings in nature, it is indeed an ideal time to plan a picnic with your friends.

What do you need? A checkered tablecloth, a basket full of delicious treats, appetite, good company, and the ideal location. We decided to help you with the latter, suggesting places in the south of Athens for the most fun picnic (many of which are only a breath away from the sea).

Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center Park

The SNFCC is ideal for walks around the canal or to admire the panoramic view of the city from the top of the facilities, but it is also an ideal spot for a picnic. Where? At Xefoto, the point where all the paths of the Center lead and where you will find a huge area of grass, with plenty of space to lay out and have a picnic with your friends.

Ellinikon Experience Park

Within the Experience Park at Elliniko there are large areas with grass and many trees, so having a picnic there is a very good choice. Scattered in some places, you will also find some tables to set up and even better, there are kiosks where you can get whatever you want or need.

Faskomilia Hill, Vouliagmeni

On Faskomilia Hill in Vouliagmeni, you will definitely enjoy green trails, ideal for hiking with an incredible view. There are several paths you can follow, so all you need is the classic tablecloth, some snacks, and good company to set up your picnic.

Notos, Voula

In the park around the well-known cafe Notos in Voula, you can easily set up your own picnic, as there is plenty of space with grass and trees for shade. Below you, you will find the sea, so you have the most ideal backdrop and we would recommend you to give the place a chance in the afternoon, as you will enjoy a very beautiful sunset.

Agios Georgios – Trokantero Park, Palaio Faliro

In close proximity to Flisvos Marina is the Trokantero Park, where you will find lush green playgrounds for free play, some tables for picnics (which you must be lucky to grab), and plenty of shade under the trees, creating the perfect conditions for a picnic on the grass. A plus is that, depending on the position you choose, you can also have a view of the sea, which is just a few meters away.

Pani Hill, Alimos

On Pani Hill in Alimos, you will first enjoy a wonderful view, and what better than to admire it while having a picnic? There are many tables in the area specifically for this purpose, although you can also lay out the classic tablecloth on the ground and have your picnic there. Remember to bring all the essentials and get ready for enjoyable moments with the mountain or the sea in the background.
